A significant portion of the services’ attrition problem has been attributed to inappropriate selection and classification of personnel. Past tools for selecting and classifying personnel have been based on statistical methods like regression that have used a few variables to develop a single linear equation for decision making. This has led to a focus on the median sailor and “one size fits all” approach to the problem. The projects that are included in this group are aimed at the development of scientific measures and techniques that support the Whole Person Assessment goal of modern selection and classification. | focus on measures
like collective efficacy, trust, social and coping skills, goal
orientation, social intelligence and impression management.
The measures will be related to team effectiveness in a number
of situations. In one
case the relation of measures to the effectiveness of virtual teams
will be investigated. In addition, two of the projects are concerned
with the development of data evaluation techniques that can lead to
flexible tools for creating the harmonizing blend of skills that must
characterize successful teams in an environment of reduced force size.
Fuzzy sets and expansions of data envelopment analysis will be
investigated. The individual projects are
