RECRUITING

The inability of the services to satisfy recruiting goals is a strong indicator of problems with the existing system. In the current tight job market it is imperative that recruiters have all of the tools that are necessary to compete for quality military personnel. Four projects that add to the science which supports recruiting are included. The first three deal with the problem of informing potential recruits about the service. They concern the potential recruit values invoked by recruiting messages, the relative richness of the media that are used to deliver those recruiting messages, and the particular impact of sponsorships recruiting message receivers. A fourth project is aimed at improving the methods for selecting military

personnel to be recruiters. The fifth project is aimed at explaining the decision calculus of the recruit when faced with the rules of the delayed entry program. Collectively this package of projects addresses science issues concerned with recruiter selection, the recruiting message and the actions of recruits when faced decisions under current and perspective policies. The individual projects are briefly described below.
