Real-Time Temporal Probabilistic Inference using Bayesian Networks: Decision Support in Manpower and Personnel Management

William H. Hsu, Shing I Chang
Kansas State University

Proposed Grant  $106,634

Abstract:
This proposed research studies the use of graphical probabilistic models for real-time decision support in Navy personnel assignment, based on a whole-person profile that combines the recruitment time

record of multiple personnel with historical data on their evolving skills and experiences. Dynamic queries to an intelligent system for decision support may be issued by users and by Navy organizations that have real-time requirements and specifications for personnel assignment. For example, queries for the estimated availability of a set of positions may be posed by a detailer attempting to meet organizational manpower needs, or by a job candidate looking for a desirable assignment; in both cases, control responses from the intelligent system may have deadlines.
